Barcelona femeni successfully retained the Copa de la Reina trophy at the thrilling final match of the tournament, this time by beating Levante UD Women 4-2 at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque. Once again the Barca women showed immense character and put up a performance worthy of champions against a difficult opponent. Taking the lead at the fifth minute from a corner kick, converted by midfielder Patricia Guijarro, the Barca captain Alexia Putellas netted the second goal at the twenty-minute mark with a header. This was quickly followed by a third goal from Marta Torrejon. The first half ended with Barca women fully in control and a stellar display from the Dutch international, Lieke Martens, who provided a hat trick of assists.
Levante Women began the second half with intensity, netting two goals within a space of three minutes, from Redondo at the fifty-ninth and three minutes later netted their second from Banini, setting up the match for a nervy finish. Alexia Putellas showed composure sealing it with a sublime finish at the seventy-third minute after a defensive error.
Barca Women completed the treble in historic Barca fashion winning the UWCL trophy, Liga Primera and the Queens Cup, doing so with 38 wins,1 draw,1 loss,179 goals converted with just 15 goals conceded in all competitions. A truly astonishing feat as Barcelona became the first club in history to have the men and women’s team win the treble. The perfect to end what has been a stellar and unforgettable season.
